Minutes of a closed meeting of the Steering Group
held at Roydon Church Room on 10 June 2021
 
 

PRESENT Becky Whatley (chair), Richard Pither, Andrew Eaglen, Lindsey Bilston, Andrew Daniels, Teddy Rowley, Rita Rowley, Mike Garnham, Simon Noble.
APOLOGIES: Dick Mitchel, Richard Mabey.

1. Minutes of previous meetings:

The minutes of meeting of 18 March were approved with no matters arising.

2. Treasurer’s report:

Balance 1st Jan £5730.08
Donations £195.00
Expenses £356.26
Balance 7th June £5568.82

Insurance reduced from £200 to £138 on the basis that any event would not involve more than 100 people.

3. Secretary’s report:

a) Escape to the country’ filmed at QW and will be screened on BBC 1 later this year.
b) Damage to the cabin rectified.
c) Donated wild flowers in the meadow are doing well.
d) Diss Rotary club have been invited to use QW for an evening picnic on 29 June.
e) Cherry Carrier intends to run a nature identification event with school age children at the autumn half term. She has also suggested permanent sculptures at QW but members were not in favour of this.
f) NWT workshop ‘How to create a wildflower meadow’ on Tuesday 29 June.

4. Management issues:

a) Management Plan approved with minor amendments.
b) Fairness and Awareness Policy approved without change.
c) Child Protection Policy approved with minor amendments.
d) Health and Safety Policy approved without amendment.
e) Standard Risk Assessment for working parties approved without amendment.
f) Standard Risk Assessment for social events subject to revisions to be agreed.
g) Schools – Lindsey has contacted Roydon School but no response as yet.
h) Tree safety – No concerns were raised.

Activities:

a) Woodland Celebration – see updated attached poster and activities chart. Further activities very welcome.
b) Queen’s Green Canopy – agreed that further planting at QW was inappropriate but we should encourage further planting and in particular the establishment of connecting green corridors.
c) Bat Walk – Lindsey agreed to lead another evening walk at end of August.

Thursday 7 October 2021 at 7 pm at Roydon Parish Room, rear of Roydon Church.

FOOTNOTES
1. Diss-covery, part of U3A have requested permission to use metal detectors at QW on Friday 18th June at about 10am for 2 – 3 hours. They have been before, I have met the leader, they seem very responsible and would notify any finds. I have agreed. RP
